TBR guide

How to Choose Semi Truck Tire Tread Patterns

A guide for fleets and distributors comparing steer, drive, trailer and all-position TBR tread designs.

Steer tires

Steer tires prioritize stable handling, even shoulder wear, water evacuation and casing integrity. For line-haul fleets, low rolling resistance and uniform wear may be major priorities.

Drive tires

Drive tires use traction-oriented tread blocks or open shoulders for torque transfer, braking and regional service. Misapplying a drive pattern can increase noise, scrub or fuel consumption.

Trailer tires

Trailer tires focus on scrub resistance, stability and heat control. Trailer applications can produce irregular wear when inflation, alignment or loading are not controlled.

All-position tires

All-position patterns support mixed fleets that need flexibility, but the buyer should still confirm axle, route and load. The most flexible tire is not always the lowest-cost tire over its life.
