USA import guide

How to Import Tires from Vietnam to the USA

A practical guide for US tire distributors, fleets and private-label buyers planning container-volume tire imports from Vietnam.

Start with the exact tire program, not only the price

A useful USA tire RFQ starts with tire category, size, load range, pattern position, intended use, quantity by size, target port and required branding. Semi truck, light truck, OTR, agricultural and PCR tires follow different technical and compliance review paths.

For US buyers, common destination planning may include Los Angeles, Long Beach and Houston, but final routing depends on vessel schedule, cargo readiness, carrier availability and the Incoterm agreed in the contract.

DOT and marking review

DOT compliance must be confirmed by product family, size, marking and destination use. A supplier should not claim that every tire is automatically approved for every market. Buyers should request the current product data sheet, sidewall marking confirmation, applicable test or certificate evidence, and importer obligations before order approval.

Documents to prepare

Typical export documents may include commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin when applicable, insurance certificate for CIF terms, and product-specific compliance records where required. Any MSDS, phytosanitary or destination-specific document should be requested only when relevant to the product and market.

RFQ checklist for faster quotation

Send size, PR/load range, load index or speed rating, application, annual volume, first-order quantity, target arrival window, private-label needs, barcode/label instructions and destination port. Complete technical information reduces quote revisions and prevents inappropriate pattern selection.
